Workshop on ‘Storytelling & Puppetry as Pedagogical Tools of ECCE’ for IHE students

Report by NCCL, National Book Trust Curiosity, child-play, and an innovative teaching approach came alive at the headquarters of National Book Trust, India in New Delhi, as students and faculty from the Department of Human Development and Childhood Studies, Institute of Home Economics (University of Delhi) participated in a vibrant and engaging workshop organised by NCCL, the children’s wing of NBT-India. The afternoon began with an “Orientation on the Activities of NBT-India and NCCL,” followed by the Workshop on “Storytelling & Puppetry as Pedagogical Tools of ECCE” by storyteller, trainer, and children’s author Ms Usha Chhabra. She led an interactive and energetic session, emphasising the importance of play, puppetry, and storytelling in the holistic development of young children. Students were encouraged to step into the mind of a child through puppets, dolls, and toys – exploring how storytelling enhances imagination, visual imagery, creativity, communication, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
